We are people of the Resurrection. The care in which we bury our dead is an expression of our faith in the victory of Christ over everlasting death. As it is written: “What is sown in the earth is subject to decay, what rises is incorruptible. What is sown is ignoble, what rises is glorious. Weakness is sown; strength rises up. A natural body is put down and spiritual body comes up” (1 Cor. 15:14b-44).
Preplanning your funeral arrangements is a gift of peace to families and the Church, so that at the time of death, the focus can be on the comforts of our Faith.
Making preparations are a gift to ourselves as well; offering us a chance to meditate on God’s Mercy and Grace, and giving us a chance to affirm that which we believe. As we proclaim at Mass: “Dying Christ destroyed our death. Rising He restored our life.” This is central to our faith. Jesus Lives! And so will we through Him.
