As the Sun reports, Our Lady of the Rosary is one of only two certified green burial cemeteries in the entire state of Texas, according to the Green Burial Council. That distinction is something we hold with deep gratitude and responsibility.
What Is Green Burial?
Green, or natural, burial allows a loved one to return to the earth as simply and naturally as possible. Rather than embalming fluids, sealed metal caskets, or concrete vaults, a green burial uses only a biodegradable casket or a simple shroud. It is gentler on the earth, often more affordable than conventional burial, and for many families a more meaningful reflection of their faith and values.
Our twenty acres of prayer gardens — filled with wildflowers, sculptures, and wind chimes between Georgetown and Jonah — were designed to be a living, healing place rather than a somber one.
Open to All Faiths
While Our Lady of the Rosary is a Catholic cemetery, we welcome families of every belief. As our co-founder Ellen Brumder shared with the Sun, families of Jewish, Muslim, and Bahá'í faith often seek out green burial, and we are honored to serve each of them with reverence for their own traditions.
